How Software Can Improve with Automated Software Analysis and Measurement: IV Edition CIO Conference

On May 13th, a group of IT executives highlighted the importance of these software analysis and measurement in order to maintain software quality standards and to uphold a healthy and efficient relationship with business stakeholders and application service providers.

According to Jose Maria Lopez, Director of Analysis for Penteo, the absence of ADM productivity management in system implementation limits positioning. Lopez emphasized the immaturity of software development (i.e. poor ADM industrialization and software quality) are the main factors in developer productivity loss. He explained how productivity issues directly influence the decision to outsource application maintenance , therefore, complicating the cycle of application development.

Dr. Bill Curtis, Executive Director at CISQ, discussed why large companies should use the metrics and standards developed by CISQ to automate software measurement. Curtis also debuted the CRASH Benchmark for SAP, arguing that software quality is higher when there are less customizations present in the application.

At this event, Capgemini shared its experience as a customer of CAST. Carlos Blasco, Director of Applications Lifecycle, explained the importance of CAST in offering a satisfactory service to its customers; CAST is used to measure the structural quality of the application portfolio and to make recommendations, so that delivery to its clients was able to meet the highest quality standards at Capgemini.

Rafael de la Fuente, CEO of Leda, explained that the difficulty of software lies in its intangiblility, making it difficult to be quantitatively measured. In order to change this, he proposed combining manual and automated software metrics to better measureapplication development and maintenance productivity.

Productivity measurement also helps to:

  • Estimate the effort and cost of projects adjusted to standard values
  • Compare productivity with that of the market
  • Establish strategies for savings and improvement
  • Manage development productivity models

Gregg Blatt, CAST EVP of Worldwide Operations, held a demonstration of the CAST Application Analytics Dashboard. The dashboard enables CIOs to discover, at a glance, which critical applications are the most vulnerable to failure.

In a relaxed atmosphere, the renowned journalist, Teresa Viejo, had a captivating interview with Cristina Alvarez, CIO of Telefonica; Fernando Lucero, CIO of Iberdrola; and Maria Luisa Arjonilla, CIO of Banco Popular. The three CIOs represent the IT vision of the leading companies in Telecommunications, Utilities and Banking within the country, and throughout the interview shared the central aspects of productivity measurement at their companies.

IV Edición CIO Conference: Una mañana productiva

¿Tiene su empresa implantado un programa de medida de la productividad de software? El pasado 13 de mayo un grupo de directivos de TI puso de manifiesto la importancia llevar a cabo este tipo de mediciones para mantener la calidad de software y una relación sana y eficiente con todos las partes interesadas del ecosistema de TI.

Según José María Lopez, Director de Análisis de Penteo, la ausencia de gestión aspectos de productividad en la implantación de sistemas es una de las claves que limitan el posicionamiento. Penteo incidió en el hecho de que la inmadurez en la gestión del SDLC; es decir la poca industrialización y los problemas de calidad son los principales factores para la pérdida de productividad en el desarrollo e implantación de sistemas. Así mismo afirmo cómo influyen directamente los problemas de productividad en la decisión de externalizar AMS, dificultando la gestión del ciclo de desarrollo de aplicaciones.

De la mano del Dr. Bill Curtis, SVP de CAST y Director Ejecutivo del CISQ conocimos el motivo por el que al usar las métricas y estándares de CISQ podemos automatizar la medida del software. Curtis, además presento en primicia el CRASH Benchmark for SAP, argumentando por que la calidad es mayor cuanto menos personalizaciones presente la aplicación.

En esta ocasión, la experiencia como cliente de CAST fue representada por Capgemini Carlos Blasco, Director de Applications Lifecycle, explico la importancia de CAST para ofrecer un servicio satisfactorio a sus clientes, utilizan la herramienta para medir la calidad estructural de los portfolio de aplicaciones y realizar recomendaciones sobre acciones corretoras, de tal forma que la entrega a los clientes cumpla los más altos estándares de Calidad

Rafael de la Fuente CEO de Leda explico como la dificultad del software reside en su propia intangibilidad, convirtiendo esta industria en la única que no se cuantifica. Para romper con este hecho se propuso medir la productividad combinando métricas manuales y automatizadas.

  • Estimar esfuerzos y costes de proyectos ajustando a valores estándar
  • Comparar la productividad propia con el mercado
  • Establecer estrategias de ahorro y mejora
  • Gestionar modelos de productividad de desarrollo
